Letter to the editor published on 7/17/2002

A call to be cool. Not the “Fonzie” type cool but just some calmness and professionalism. I just started paying attention to some of the PWP letters to the editor and was really surprised by the names listed at the bottom and learning of other names of people that consider themselves “PWP’s”. I honestly don’t know enough about either side’s position to form an intelligent opinion about the subject, but I can say I am disappointed in the style of writing and even the name the group has taken. When I hear of PWP (peasants with pitchforks) I think of other names like NWA, PWT, or even the KKK. May be I am the only one that thinks this but I thought I would throw it out there. It seems the group is concerned about their city and might consider a name that better represents their concerns. Also I think that in order to be taken seriously, the writer of these letters to the editor needs to leave out personal attacks that would have our mayor being kissed in Cuba or Iraq . Between the name of the group and the writing style I believe that the group is putting up barriers for themselves to be effective in their cause. I personally know and like many of the people that are listed at the bottom of the PWP letters. I frequent their businesses and will continue to do so. I also personally know and like our mayor and I don’t think he deserves to be attacked in our local town paper.
